Navy Maxi

Happy Friday!

As of late I’ve been so into Free People- I love their brand and how it has such a carefree spirit. I found this maxi on gilt  and I’m so glad I decided to purchase it. It has been perfect for spring and will transition great into Summer. My favorite part of this dress is absolutely and obviously the back- I love the openess and simplicity. The layers at the bottom of the dress create such an incredible shape for my shorter frame. My only complaint is that if you are a little bit busty, this type of top can be trouble some- I didn’t find it to be an issue but if you do, it is easy enough to layer with a fun lacy bralette (check out Victoria’s Secret).

Do you ever shop on flash sale websites such as Gilt.com or Hautelook.com? Lauren and I both really like them- I’ve found such amazing products for nearly half the price and it’s fantastic.

Have an amazing weekend!

Camel Tones

Can you tell from our last post that we are absolutely WAiSTEDD on Camel Tones lately? Tan and Camel tones are our current inspiration for spring. Lately, there has been such great street style/ celebrity inspiration surrounding this neutral color scheme and we can’t get enough! Our favorite Camel piece has to be a coat- whether its a trench, or a full wool duster coat- the camel coat is a definite must for us! How chic is it for Spring!

Get it Right, Get it Stripes

Get it Right, Get it Stripe.Every women fears horizontal stripes quite possibly more than most things- quite possibly more than missing Girls on a Sunday night, or when someone has your last sip of wine (no like seriously who does that..). We are taught from a young age… do not, whatever you do, wear horizontal stripes. We’ll, we’re here to say no way jose!!! We love stripes done right… Get it right, get it Stripes.

Stripes have to be in the right piece- often times the issue with horizontal stripes is there is simply too much. It becomes overwhelming- like is this a dress or are you wearing binder paper (WTF, much?).  Lauren and Danielle enjoy stripes in simpler pieces, such as the t-shirt Danielle is wearing in this post.

Pairing becomes incredibly important with stripes. It is important to pick pieces that will compliment the colors in a unique way- i.e navy and the pastels. It really makes the stripes pop- in a good way. (One time Danielle wore this top with Red, same color scheme but not good. Uncle Sam anyone?) Danielle wanted something still chic but casual, so the wedges were perfect to pair with for a long day at work and to transition for drinks with friends- how cute are the tassels on the zipper??

Pastels are great in jackets because they pair so well with neutrals or classic white button down shirts. Not only are they on-trend for 2014, but pastel jackets are truly an investment piece worth making because they are timeless because of their versatility. Dress up or dress down, up to you!

Stylish Super Bowl Sunday

Stylish Super Bowl Sunday

Today on Brian Atwood’s instagram (@brian_atwood) he posted the following quote: “Super Bowl XLVIII: 4 hours for women to shoe shop online uninterrupted.” LOL, totally us.

Anyways, Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Who’s watching the big game today?!?! Who are y’all rooting for! Well, we are both 49ers fans so unfortunately for us, our team isn’t in the big game, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t watching ( maybe just for commercials and the half time show, but it will be our little secret ok???).

Super Bowl Sunday is essentially an American Holiday (I mean booze and friends are basically synonymous with a Holiday..right?). Casual parties and bar hopping are always hard to dress for- it’s important to look like you didn’t try too hard to put together the outfit you’re wearing. For these types of events we always go for casual chic: something that is totally comfortable and yet super stylish.

Danielle wears casual chic by combining a few of our favorite 2014 trends: menswear, bomber jackets, beanies and wedged sneakers. The chambray shirt brings the whole outfit together because it acts as a consistent base to the outfit. The beanie is the epitome of grunge streetstyle and its obviously perfectly appropriate for the Super Bowl! We are totally obsessed with wedge sneakers- not only are they on trend, but they are incredibly comfortable- perfect for a party or the bar.

We’re totally obsessed with Tory Burch bags in general- but this one is especially great. You can wear it regularly, a crossbody or you can remove the chain and wear it as a clutch. Gorgeous and practical- two things we definitely need in a bag.

Bold x Bright

We have had some pretty unbelievable weather in California this past week- I mean 75 degrees in January… is the universe confused on its seasons or did we miss Winter? Our condolences to those of you struggling in snow boots and North Face- good for you really because us California girls are just not cut out for that. Anyways, for the time being, we are so grateful for the beautiful weather. And of course beautiful weather always means beautiful bold colors.

When wearing brighter colors women always worry about two things: 1. I wont look good in that color or 2. It’s simply not appropriate for the season.

UMMMM seriously you’re WRONG. Here’s why: On the topic of picking brighter colors that compliment your skin tone- yes, we will acknowledge not every color looks incredible on everyone but we assure you, you will find a bright color that you CAN wear. The hardest part about a bold piece is that you are going to make a statement- do not shy away from this! You have an opportunity to stand out and truly express yourself through your clothing. Once you find a color you enjoy, the best accessory you can pair it with in confidence (cliche yes, but ohhh so true).

The same can be said for wearing bolder pieces for colder seasons- every women in the fall or winter always looks for black, grey, navy and oh gosh if they are daring they just may wear burgundy. Pair a brighter piece with a neutral as Danielle did here- it doesn’t look overwhelming and still looks carefree and chic. Obviously if it is snowing where you are shorts are probably not fun. We would recommend a bright pair of pants with layering or simply a brighter coat.

Here, Danielle pairs two bright pieces: sunglasses and skort with neutral accents: jean jacket (vintage by the way- so cool right?) and shoes. The sweater really brings the outfit together and makes it cohesive.
