Fit and Flare

Hi Everyone šŸ™‚ Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend, it’s crazy that March is almost over! I wore this great fit and flare dress over the weekend. I bought it from Anthropologie a few years ago and wore it to my college graduation! I actually forgot how cute this dress is on- such a great print and shape. I’ll have to start wearing it more often, especially now that it’s warmer!

Do you ever forget about certain items in your closet? How do you re-wear older pieces in your closet like they are new?

Share with us below! Have a GREAT week!

Over the Knee

Hi Everyone, Happy Tuesday!

One of my favorite Christmas gifts I received this year was this pair of Steve Madden over the knee black suede boots. I fell in love with these when I Ā walked by them at Nordstrom Christmas shopping for my Mom. The texture is fabulous (Suede is one of my favorite textures) and I love that you can fold them down into a shorter boot for a more casual look.

I had always been worried about wearing over the knee boots because of my height. But paired with a shorter skirt or dress it actually lengthens the legs- shorties rejoice!

You can find these over the knee boots here at Nordstrom. Despite the fact these boots are named after Tyga, I still really like them.

Winter is Coming

Ok so things have been a little crazy with the holidays right around the corner, butĀ this gloomy, “winter” weatherĀ has actually been really nice. Since we are both swamped with work and school, not having it be warm and sunny outside definitely helps us concentrate.

I celebrated my brother’s 21st birthday this weekend and below is what I wore out to dinner, minus the shoes (paired the outfit with my favorite lace up Schutz heels). I was really feeling this long sleeve black dress because it can be dressed up or down. The wrapping at the bottom helps lengthen my legs so they appear a little longer! Since its been cooler, it seemed appropriate to add a fur vest. Not only is it great for warmth, but helped make the outfit more casual. And lastly, my FAVORITE Nike Frees seemed like the perfect shoe to go with this causal, fun outfit. As I said above, adding a heel completely changes the look of the outfit so it really depends on the occasion.

Happy Monday! We hope you have a great week!

XO Danielle & Lauren

Leather Weather

Yesterday, my Family did a Sunday dinner in Santana Row at Foga de Chao which is a Brazilian Steakhouse. I’ve heard so many great things about it and let me tell you it absolutely lived up to its expectation! The waiters bring around huge slabs of all kinds of meat (sounds weird and creepy- it’s totally delicious) and have an amazing salad bar and sides- absolutely a must try! It was so nice to have a Sunday night dinner with my Family- I have been trying to do something fun on Sunday night because I think it helps when gearing up to face another week! Definitely a de-stressor.

For the dinner, I wore a leather mini paired with a flannel and wedge sneakers. Both Lauren and IĀ have been obsessed with leather for quite some time and thankfully for us, it has become such a hot itemĀ in the fashion world. Leather is in jackets, pants, skirts, vests, tops- you name it! Now that it’s starting to cool off, it’s the perfect time to either invest in leather pieces or break out the classics you already have in your closet.

I’m absolutely and totally obsessed with this leather mini from Trouve I bought last week at Nordstrom (I think I say that about a lot of clothes, but really this skirt is so bomb)- it has a perfect fit and the drawstring makes it look sporty chic. I love the mini because 1. It’s not too short/ inappropriate so I can wear it to dinner and still feel classy Ā 2. I can dress it down with a casual tank and sneakers for a day off work or when I’m running errands. Leather just brings a total edge to any outfit and is such a fun texture to pair with!

Zig & Zag

Zig & Zag, WAiSTEDDZig & Zag, WAiSTEDD

Literally IT WAS SO HOT YESTERDAY!! San Jose was in the triple digits- which is incredibly hot for us here in Northern CA. When it gets this warm (which it rarely does happen) we really like to wear dresses- they’re so simple and easy! I love this one I found at Hautelook last month from WOW Couture which is so Missoni esque. I love the fit and flare shape coupled with a fun zig/ zag print. It makes for such a perfect summer dress. I’ve worn it for a date night and it worked great!

In addition to dresses, we love to wear wedges in the Summer. We’re not quite sure if it’s their comfortability or their simplicity but wedges are absolutely our go-to shoe for warmer weather. I’ve raved about these Dolce Vita wedges before- I love the strapped shape and the tassel detail- also, how perfect is the color and the material?!?! They are some of my favorite shoes of all time.Ā

Asymmetry

Asymmetry, WAiSTEDDWhat a week it has been! Isn’t it funny how certain weeks can just fly while others seem never ending? The funĀ ones unfortunately are the ones that always go too quickly. Both of us had such a great week – literally we blinked and it’s already Sunday. Lauren celebrated her 23rd birthday last weekend along the coast and Danielle is returning from Stagecoach (country version of Coachella). We both had such an incredible week, it’s hard to believe its coming to an end!

Anyways- the topic we are discussing for this week is asymmetry- it’s a trend we are absolutely loving right now. Asymmetrical pieces are great to play with in an outfit and really can highlight your shape in different ways. Here, Danielle is wearing an asymmetrical skirt which hugs her curves in all the right places; paired with a body-con strapless top and a moto-jacket (LOVE THIS JACKET BTW) Danielle showcases the curves. Ā The slit hits above the knee, which is perfect for Danielle’s shorter frame… And we’re always for some Angelina Jolie slitĀ action (um, we wish… Angie girl teach us your ways).

If you’re going out pair the skirt with some simple black heels, or if you’re like Danielle and love to be comfy wearing wedges or sneakers.Ā If you’re in the thick of summer and want something simpler, pair an asymmetrical skirt with a body-con top, unique belt and and pair of simple sandals.

Asymmetrical pieces are EVERYWHERE right now- dresses, skirts, flowy shirts- how perfect are each of these pieces for summer?!?! Especially when you want something easy and breezy when you’re sweating up a storm. If you have a petite body type, make sure the flowy shirt or skirt isn’t all encompassing of your body, you’ll feel lost in it (no, seriously we call it the balloon effect). Try something more form fitting- you’ll actually be wearing clothes rather than swimming in them.

Orange is the New Black

Okay let’s be real, black will always be the new black. Always. But every once in a while, its necessary to mix it up- bright colors are such a fun transition into spring and summer. One color that we are absolutely loving right now is a beautiful orange color- it is such a refreshing color to add to your wardrobe. It will truly brighten so many of your outfits. You can incorporate a bright color, such as orange, into your every day work attire or spice it up for a night out- we always love versatility!

This is why, for us, Orange is the new Black (Not to be confused with the very popular Netflix series or any creepy Halloween outfit inspiration). One thing we love orangeĀ is that there are many variations of the color – you are able to go with a very bright, almost neon or a more muted creamsicle color. Personally, we love a lighter color orange because its easier to incorporate into your wardrobe. Danielle pairs her orange blouse with denim jeans, but this color would go well with white jeans or even printed pants. When summer comes around, we love to mix brighter, unexpected colors. For example, we would love to pair this orange blouse with that turquoise skort Danielle wore in our Bold x Bright post a few months ago. When mixing bright colors together, make sure one color is more muted (ie. lighter pants & neon blouse or vice versa) so the look ends up looking unique rather than goofy and way over the top.

Danielle Medeiros, WAiSTEDD

When wearing brighter colors, we like to wear simple jewelry and accessories because the color should be the focus of the outfit. Danielle pairs the orange with gold jewelry and neutral snakeskin heels. For a more casual outfit pair it with a pair of pointed ankle boots. If you’re not a hoops fan (what’s wrong with you…jkkk) go for gold studs and a few simple layered necklaces.

Danielle Medeiros, WAiSTEDD

Danielle Medeiros, WAiSTEDD

Danielle Medeiros, WAiSTEDD

Because this blouse is flowy and layered it is important that the pants/ bottom you wear with this must be tighter and fitted- especially if you have a curvier figure.Ā The tighter bottom piece anchors the outfit so you don’t feel like you’re swimming in your clothes or look boxy. You never want to lose your shape in an outfit- fit is so incredibly important!!

Danielle Medeiros, WAiSTEDD

Layers on the wrist go with the layers in the blouse- mixing gold and color is always a great accessory addition.
